A failure to stay official is 100% on the faction leadership.
If you can't or won't spend the effort to get something going, you deserve what is coming to you.
As for LH. If Snak had spent the time he uses to complain about things on the forums ingame, LH would still be official.
It is a different case with LH than it is with DHC. As LH is focused on player interactions. It is not Snak's fault that LH has been on life support in the last two years. The faction has struggled enough during that time and it would've lost its officialdom much earlier if not for certain individuals behind the characters. It is a shame to see this faction lose its officialdom but on the other side, it's a good feeling that the struggle is finally over. It has been an honor.
LH has had the ability to create new opportunities. With official faction position, you can ammend your own ID to force new avenues of play (if you wish). You can create official events that suit your own narrative, if you wish.
Heck, if you wish to build it entirely on personal faction roleplay you can just start having a beef with someone somewhere, and keep it going that way. There are avenues of play. Avenues entirely not reliant on gameplay, or admins, or devs.
Relying and building stories based entirely on dev control is silly. It is YOUR story, and it should be told by YOUR narrative. Sure game changes will impact that both negatively and positively. However it is still YOUR story, and it is up to you how the next chapter is written.
DHC doesnt do well because it is this amazing faction.... It does well because me and others do log, even when its boring. Even when its tedious. Even when its a chore. We log. Sometimes i can't even make profit doing what i do. But i will be damn sure to log. Because ingame interactions is what we live and die by. There's no way around that.

its their responsibility to make it fun in the first place though i guess some people can be pleased by anything
how could they ever make something fun? whether or not you have fun is entirely up to you.
Regardless of opportunities presented to you, it can still be a chore or a drag. As i said to wasser above. It is YOUR story and narrative. Tell it how YOU want it.
If you take the initiative and gather people around you, people will want to follow.
That being said, Snak has put in a lot of effort for sure, but blaming the game itself isn't it. It's a roleplaying game, so you just need to roleplay.
We get told over and over that roleplay trumps everything. If you can provide a strong justification in roleplay, you can damn near do anything. So put it to the test. Want activity? Start a war nobody saw coming. Or a relationship nobody imagined.
Moaning about the game changes nothing. It only makes people less inclined to want to be around you due to the negativity.
I guess in a long winded way, im saying "be the change you want to see"
