More cruise speed for Barge

A 5k has 1/6th the cargo capacity of a Barge.
But it's only 3.5x as fast.
Over extended distances, when the long charge time loses importance, the Barge is already much more efficient than a 5k. Not to mention on one-way trips when it can use a jump drive.

Just no.

I'll never understand how anyone seems to think that a Barge is faster than a 5k over all. its much worse.

Such unrealistic statements make me wonder if you actually play the game.

I have a working example for you.

Supplies are at Point A.

Delivery address is point B.

There is 48k between the two points(give or take a few meters?). I just flew a 5k ship between the two said points. It took:

Let's even be generous and round this time UP to two minutes thirty each way.

Let's also be overly generous and say dock/buy supplies/undock takes 30 seconds.

That means starting at Point A, buying goods, flying to point B, Selling goods and returning to point A again takes a minimum of: SIX minutes, of course allowing for another 30 seconds to "dock/offload/undock" in your 5k ship at point B.

Right, so that six minutes, times six is 36 mins. - Quite some time, yes?

Now, let's fly the Barge there and back from the exact same point A, B, A.

Let's say the Barge actually takes the same 30 seconds to dock/buy/sell/undock - Totally false but let's round this in favour of the Barge being "faster" and say it takes exactly the same amount of time.


This was the time run ONE WAY in a Barge recorded just now. I just docked and logged out given how laughable this is.

That's over 46 mins ONE WAY.

I must say, this particular Barge run was very impressive- No NPC knocks and this exact route by nature there is zero things in the way like Asteroids etc.

I welcome you to test this exact example given.

Also, if you "jump" in a Barge three systems, this is going to be faster- or perhaps not? given it dumps you 100k up at any given system's jump location appearance point.

Please tell me how a 5k ship is not faster?

If you don't like your barge - sell it to me.

I thankfully got my 15B back for a few barges I had. I still have a few. I keep them in the hope that one day the dev team see's sense. No joke implied.
