He paused when she mentioned this, his fork in his left hand while his right hand rested on a glass half filled with milk. A rift amongst Nomads didn't surprise him I mean after all, rifts occurred often between other groups of "friends." The Corsairs came to mind on this. Having those with Thralls within them wanting to conceive was also no real surprise considering the Cardamine content of their blood prevented it. They wanted help but even Doc himself was unsure of how to approach it. How could he help these people? It was obvious Isabella wasn't the only host that wanted this and well, he didn't object.
But then there was the "rift." Some Nomads would want no part of this and would just assume kill him on site to stop his efforts or worse, make him live as a vegetable as an example. There their were groups like the Order and the Core, two groups who would kill a sympathizer on site as well. There were the Calibans of the universe that would love nothing more than to do the same. Then there was his own people. Not everyone would understand and some would be outright against it. His Med Force people were his concern and he didn't want to endanger them. The very thought was at least mildly frightening and Isa and Admete could feel it without him saying a word.
Science also spoke. He thought of how doctors were villainized centuries before for doing things people found to be evil or just plain immoral. He thought of doctors with body parts in jars in a lost cabin somewhere so that experiments in medicine could be found. In a way, that was like the problem of Nomads but without the ability of those who objected being able to scramble one's mind to the intellect of a head of lettuce.
He dropped the fork and sighed. He didn't even look up when he asked her, "Do you realize what you are asking?"
He again sighed as he looked up to her. "It is one thing to have a sample of Admete and her blood to work with but to be in the nest of it all is dangerous. I mean, I would love to be the man who solved the problem but I cannot protect either of us against an angry Nomad. That would take an elaborate plan just to get me there."
He didn't have to say it. The idea itself was frightening him and John Holliday was a man who feared nothing or no one.
