Erie Retreat

[Doc Holliday]

The group of militants moved on. Doc was relieved in a way as it could have easily gone sideways. Fortunately, it did not. Doc found himself with his longtime friend, Gilbert. With a fresh pot of coffee, the two men sat on his porch. Having poured the coffee, they began talking.

"Interesting lot," stated Gilbert.
"Indeed," replied Doc. "I am afraid I do not have much for smoked fish to send with you. I gave a bunch of it to them."
"Ah, no worries, ol friend," replied Gilbert sipping from his mug. "Fine coffee per usual, Doc."
"Appreciated, I still make it the old school way and it has the best flavor," replied Doc.

Gilbert then changed the subject with a smile as he looked at the picture sent to him.
"So eh, you gonna.....pop the question?" Gilbert just sat as there was silence. He looked over his mug at Doc who just gave a nod.
"I think so," he replied. "I think I got this one right."
"John, she is crazy bout yeh," Gilbert told him. "I seen it in her eyes.....in the way she looks at yeh. John, go for it."

There was some silence as Doc found himself in thought. Midori crossed his mind again. It wasn't the first time he considered another only to feel a level of guilt but this time was different. Through the power of Admete, his former told him that it was OK...to be happy. Gilbert knew his friend well and knew he was thinking of her.
"John ye can't stay alone foreva," he stated.
"Actually, I could," interrupted Doc.
"But you will just keep wallowing in your pity and loneliness. John, enjoy life."

There was another moment of silence before Doc finally spoke.
"We are planning a vacation soon on Baden Baden which is why I ordered the ring. I want the moment...the ring....her to be perfect."
Gilbert came to the side of his old friend and put an arm over his shoulder. "John, it will be. I seen the smile on yer face when she's around ye."
Doc just patted the hand on his shoulder and smiled. "Thanks, Buddy."

The two men then finished their coffee and Gilbert returned to his post. John would leave at day's end for Baffin.
