Date of Birth and age: 28th of February 708 AGS / 42 years old
Nationality: Gallic
Previous branch or organization: Marine Royale attaché, then various mid-level administrative MINDEF roles
Why do you want to join the GNI?
For my distinguished service as aide to the most important people in the Marine, I was rewarded with ungrateful pencil-pushing jobs once the war ended. You're too knowledgeable, they said, we need your expertise to push Gallia forward, they said. And all they gave me was a mediocre desk, menial tasks and tepid coffee.
I've done what was asked of me for as long as I could take it. Failed administration after failed administration, forced to watch the new powers that be busy themselves with safe-guarding their interests, their wealth, their influence. I've stopped counting the fruitless changes in policy, the unwarranted promotions of undeserving bootlickers, the concessions to our heritage, our rightful place among the stars.
I can abide this no more. They'll find another clerk among the sea of needy fools that swarm the Union's offices.
I feel like I need a change of career. Get back to something meaningful and worthy of my full adhesion. I knew a few spooks from ONI and DRMar way back when. Never cared much for them - too many questions, never a straightforward answer. Getting their coffee in the morning must have been a headache. But I always wondered about the job, the implications.
A good friend of mine whom I trust has mentioned you and your... Project as a worthy prospect for someone with useful connections and the will to serve. I am one such man. Let's talk.
BIOGRAPHY ON YOUR CHARACTER
Bernard Couton is a born and bred military man who enlisted following studies in economics and psychology.
He was quickly selected for officer training and assigned to the prestigious attaché corps, aide-de-camps to superior and general officers.
There, he served as facilitator, advisor and coordinator for many members of the naval high command. Not least of which was a young commandant, Isabelle Montlaville de Chanteloup, who left a mark on him because of her unconventional stance on the morals of the Gallic war and her general lack of patience with most things.
His successive postings, ever higher in the command structure, allowed him to directly witness the conduct, and the unraveling, of the campaign from the Gallic war rooms. He saw the despair, the rage, the emotional reactions, and ultimately the panic and the disasters that ensued.
Disillusioned, his world shattered, he accepted the menial jobs he was then proposed by the various provisional authorities that followed the breaking down of the chain of command.
He worked in such departments as refugee management, post-war normative redefinition or fleet refit and demobilisation programs.
His current assignment concerns ensuring the safety requirements of the freshly built VIP housings on planet Nevers are up to date, in order to properly accommodate the surge of ex-nobility on the luxuriant planet. That was the final drop, the proverbial straw.
Couton has made a specialty of navigating just about any social circle. His soft spoken nature and collected manners ensure he listens more than he talks, a useful trait in any conference room or military headquarters. As such, and because of his many years assisting the powerful, he maintains an extensive network of people all over Gallia, though many among them aren't nearly as influential as they were during the monarchy.
