The size is slightly problematic when navigating gold ore field yes. However it has received an -insane- strafe speed to make up for it.
What do you mean poor results in mining? I usually get about 900-1000 ore out of a single asteroid with RPA| ID. Tried it on indie Molly ID and it was sufficient as well.
The longer travel time and actual mining is again offset by buffed gold ore refinery ratios.
It's 1 : 1.6 rather then 1 : 1.2 to other ores still with standard mining. Keep in mind you are getting paid 145$ pre ore on Connacht, which is insanely generous deal.

BMM gets like 400-500ish gold per asteroid at max with the Hegemon. Do you use a small miner? Or if you use the Hegemon, do you mine the small bits or do you destroy the whole thing outright? I did both on every asteroid and got the said no more than 500ish gold. Still no comparison to an Arrastra (pre-patch) who is mining the small asteroids so fast it can supply two quick moving 5k transports in the field.

The Arrastra also just gets like 400-500 Gold Ore from one asteroid and needs like 3 minutes to wear it down. Apart from that the original Gold mining zone has been nerfed to like 10%, so the whole system is nerfed.
