The concept that traders owe RP to pirates simply because they exist is absurd.
No one would consider walking into dark alleys in consideration of the fact that there may be hungry muggers back there that need money.
I'm a trader, and my RP is that I trade to make money for myself and to feed my family. As such I'm not inclined to just hand over my profits unless there's no choice in the matter. Pirates need to be able to force the issue to deserve money.
If we had any reason to believe that there was quality RP to be had with reasonable demands, there would be no issue.
If I've had good RP with pirates before, I'll engage with them willingly, but that's so infrequently the case that we can't realistically expect it. And I realize that this works both ways also. There is plenty of blame here on both sides.
In short, I'm going to make you have to catch me, otherwise you have no right to any expectations.
Also, on the subject of pvp "ganking".
Traders, when pirated by gunboats and frigates (bring back Rule 4.7!) are routinely told the we "should have hired escorts".
aka, you should have brought more ships. Tell me, why should pvp'ers get a consideration that traders never do?
Why didn't YOU bring more ships? And why should you expect fair treatment when it's not universally given to traders, often by the same players making such complaints?
