Alright, I've spoken to the guys that make the guns.
Tachyons are, in fact, particles. Tachyons work very simply - the more you slow down the tachyons, the more energy they gain. You trade off projectile speed for damage. That can be easily manipulated. Now, in theory, tachyons can have interesting side effects. When tuned properly, temporal properties might be present. I.e. you can affect a target's past. That's, of course, in theory. No one has ever achieved that and it is strictly data from a theoretical model.
Particle weapons, on the other hand, are way easier to create and maintain, but inferior to tachyon blasters.
We see two possible courses of action that we can easily achieve.
First option - tachyons act as a carrier for the charged particle stream. This means, you'll rely on the particle beam's damage and not the tachyon's. We'll achieve slightly higher projectile speed this way. Damage would be that of a standard particle cannon.
Second option - dual phase attack. We'll be using dual emitters, as with the first option. But here's where the similarities end. We'll overcharge the particle cannons to achieve higher projectile speed. Meanwhile, we won't slow the tachyons as much, matching the projectile speed of the particles. BUT, we'll tune them to fire within a veeeeery small margin of each other.
The tachyons will hit first, weakening atomics bonds or disrupting shields and the particles will follow and deliver the bulk of the damage. This will be very effective against most types of shields and hull. In fact, our projections show that it will surpass 85% of all known non-experimental weapons. There's a drawback. Power consumption. It's going to be very taxing on the power core, but, you're going to need less cannons. You can use the other slots for missiles or alternatively, completely retrofit the ship with less hardpoints. This will mean the ship will be a bit lighter and as a result, faster. For the record the second option is my favorite. We've got some... non-human components that we can experiment with.
We can increase the scale and make it a wicked weapon of mass destruction.
Your call.
Now give the info on Jack.
