Probably easier to explain in PM, but the short versions are:
For Platinum, it has a highly restrictive "luxury" buyers list that features extremely few destinations outside Gallia which makes it hard to connect, and none of which have csu that are particularly good. It barely competes with NPC HRCs like Optronics.

Gold <-> Plat is very good right now, or is the issue more diversity? Diversity with these is sort of stuck until more NuMining fields come around for the most part.

Diversity is part of it. Connecting with Gold is great if you want Gold, but if you want to connect with High Temperature Alloy or something else, you're out of luck.

But that's not the only issue. Connecting to NL isn't actually good.

If you buy it for 110-115, which is the price you can reasonably expect a POB to charge, and make the ~17m trip to NL to sell for 90-something profit, you are only just matching, say, High Temperature Alloy from Wichter to Portsmouth. Which didn't require anyone to mine.
The non-Gallic routes just have bad profit. They're not good enough to justify the numining effort if you can make the same trading Optronics or whatever (and significantly worse than any oldmining at decent prices).
