The Scarman Enigma

Sayne sat with one leg resting casually on the other, twirling a slender glass of red in one hand. He wore an infuriating smile as he gazed idly at Kurt. The two Black Flag Corsair pilots sat with him, as well as several other people Kurt didnt recognize. They were all looking directly at the bounty hunter.
****, Lucas, its a trap. He said, turning swiftly away from the bar and melting into the crowd. Get the **** out, now!

Kurt reached inside his long coat and thumbed the triggers on his duel snub-ended shotguns which rested in their holsters at his waist. He turned and began walking towards the door. As he tried to reach the exit however, the crowd seemed to fall thicker, people blocking his path and making his attempt to escape all the more difficult. He cursed and turned around, his eyes sifting through the mass of bodies. He saw Sayne calmly making his way through the crowd towards him. Turning back to look at the exit, he spotted two bouncers making their way towards him from the opposite direction.

They were trapping him. The whole time Sayne must have been following their every move, drawing them into the well thought out ambush he had set. Kurt growled and drew his shotguns. He primed their cartridges and they thrummed with energy as they came alive. The blue sight-line shone true from the target-finders mounted above the barrels of the weapons, illuminating the inside of Kurts large trench coat. With one swirling motion, Kurt brought his shotguns to bear, one arm aimed at Sayne, the other aimed at the incoming bouncers. He then raised his weapons into the air and fired. The crack of the twin shotguns drowned out the sound of the music as the small clouds of shrapnel tore from the twin barrels and blasted the ceiling, raining down bits of plasterboard on the heads of the dancers below.

People started screaming as the music cut off, diving for cover beneath tables or simply ducking down with their hands above their heads. Now that Kurt had a clear shot, he aimed at his targets again. He cursed as he saw that Sayne had vanished, but the two bouncers were still there. He brought both shotguns to bear on the two bouncers, firing simultaneously. Before the bouncers could bring their sub machineguns around in time, the twin shotgun blasts punched into their chests. Kurts deadly accurate shots killed the two men instantly, flinging them back several meters before they hit the ground.

Kurt then dove for cover, his dark form a blurry swath of leather as his trench coat fluttered behind him. He rolled as he hit the floor, crossing his shotguns over his chest. He came up by the entrance to the bar and kicked in the waist high door. The barman drew a long silver pistol from somewhere beneath the bar surface and aimed it at Kurt. A blast from his left hand shotgun silenced the bartender however before the man could squeeze the trigger. The body flew back into a stack of clean glasses, shattering them all in one go. Kurt ducked behind the bar and loaded two more shells into his left hand shotgun. He then aimed over the bar and fired the remaining shell in his right hand weapon at random, hoping to cause more confusion.

As he fumbled with two more shells, he pressed a finger to his ear.
Lucas, where the hell are you,
Im over in the sitting area, Lucas voice replied, Hiding behind an overturned table.
A high pitched screech rent the air as Lucas blaster pistol discharged in the direction of an unseen enemy. Kurt stole a glance over the top of the bar. He spotted Sayne Jadyn ducking down behind a speaker. He leveled one of his shotguns at the speaker and fired. The web of the speaker disintegrated as Kurts shotgun blast ripped it apart. Sparks flew out in all directions as the front half of the speaker melted under the impact. Sayne leaned around from the other side, brandishing an assault carbine. He fired the carbine from the hip, peppering the bar with fully automatic fire. Kurt ducked back down just in time as the bar top was ripped up into vicious clouds of wooden fragments. Glass bottles shattered above his head, raining sharp glass shards down from above. He flicked the neck of his coat up over his head to protect him from the deadly shower of glass.

Pinned down inside the bar circle, Kurt had no choice but to return fire. His only exit was blocked and there was no way of getting over to Lucas. The two would-be secret operatives had been well and truly fooled. Kurt cursed at his own stupidity as another volley of automatic fire ripped into the bar. There was nothing left to do but call in for backup.
Danaan control this is Kurt Manning, He shouted as he opened a general distress channel, Admiral Scarman, anybody, this is Kurt Manning. Admiral Anderson and I are pinned down in a nightclub. Sayne Jadyn fooled us and led us here and now hes gonna kill us if we dont get out of here. Can anyone here me?
Kurt waited a moment before standing and firing both his shotguns at once. He ducked back down into cover and tried again.

Please, anyone, we need help! The channel began to crackle, making Kurts heart leap. Oh thank God,
Im afraid no one is coming to help you bounty hunter, Sayne Jadyn chuckled over the communicator. Ive blocked your communications, Im afraid Im the only one who can hear your pitiful plea for help.
Kurt cried out in anger. He was trapped and alone without any indication of backup. He roared in pure rage and stood up, emptying his shotguns in the direction of the maddening Sayne Jadyn. Sayne began to laugh openly over the communications channel, his snicker building up into a fully crazed cackle.
