Vega Log Mk 1,7
Log Report 4
Mac Donagan
Position: Phoenix Fleet Engineer
Topic: Command Deck, Sensor and Communication Array

The external Command Deck required a complete overhaul. The previous deck was decades old, and its Rheinland design no longer fit our needs. We decided to remove that entire section of the hull and replace it with something more suitable—killing two birds with one stone, as that portion also housed the forward sensor and communication array.

The internal Command Deck faced similar challenges, but we were able refurbish it the traditional way, removing each console one by one and installing the cutting-edge technology we use in our Nephilim-class vessels.

Two teams were assigned to these tasks—one for each deck—while Laurens’s team managed the arrays.
(Personal note: I have no idea who promoted him, but he’ll be the one to answer for any trouble he causes.)

The entire operation took two months, and we remain on schedule.

Here is a more detailed list of the component changed.

Command Deck:
  • Environmental and Life Support Monitors (Repaired by the ECLSS team—see Log Report 2)
  • Captain’s Chair and Command Station (Installed, updated, synchronized, and ready for operation)
  • Navigation and Helm Controls (Installed and updated; full functionality pending engine and reactor tests)
  • Sensors and Tactical Stations (Installed and updated; see “Sensor Array” below for testing details)
  • Communications Hub (Installed and updated; clearly works, as we’re all subjected to Laurens’s endless ramblings)
  • Science and Analysis Consoles (Installed and updated; awaiting input from the sensor array, ready to sync with the Science Lab)
  • Engineering Status Board (Currently under ALG scrutiny)
  • Holographic Displays / Central Tactical Map (Installed, updated, and operational)
  • Security and Access Control (Installed, updated; tested by briefly trapping Laurens so we could get some rest)
  • Ship non-sentient AI Terminal (Installed, currently ingesting data from Carthage)

Sensor Array:
  • Passive Sensor Suite (Operational and calibrated)
  • Active Sensor Suite (Operational and calibrated)
  • FTL/Subspace Sensors (Operational and calibrated)
  • Environmental & Hazard Detection (Still under calibration; it managed to classify Laurens’s ship as Hazard Class 5, so it appears to be working)
  • High-Resolution Imaging & Analysis (Operational and calibrated)
  • Sensor Drones & Probes (Operational and calibrated; we will use data from the Seth Nebula for further hazard-detection adjustments)

Communication Array
  • Radio and EM Transmitters (Operational; will facilitate communication with supply ships)
  • Subspace / FTL Communications (See Note 1 below)
  • Long-Range Communication (See Note 1 below)
  • Signal Processing & Encryption (All data now properly encrypted)
  • Jamming & Counter-Jamming (Operational; with Carthage’s cooperation, we briefly jammed a good portion of the local area)
  • Internal Communications / Overlays (Operational; the newly arrived security team is already keeping a close eye on Laurens)

We also addressed the following key points:
  • Power Demands: The system should run at full capacity once the main core is online. At present, power from Carthage only lets us activate a few systems simultaneously.
  • Vulnerability: Because the extended front arrays are physically large and exposed, we’ve added the option to deploy or retract them as needed. This upgrade cost us the Rheinland memorabilia room formerly located under the main deck.
  • Redundancy: We installed multiple smaller arrays around the ship for more precise detection and backup capabilities.

Side note:
  1. To test the long-range comms, Laurens decided to broadcast his own VR erotica fan fiction. We suffered casualties: the Kadesh communications officer, as reported, redecorated the console with last night’s dinner and may require long-term therapy.
  2. After that broadcast, we noticed an increased presence of Nomad vessels and Technocrat of Auxo ships in Zeta.
