- The same way people use the player list to hunt for targets, players use the player list to avoid them. Ideally neither would, but let's face it, people are mostly unwilling to play without the player list.
- You can always hire a scout or escort. If you fly without any defense or intel, yes, that is your own fault. Interact with people on the way and hire them. There are enough people who would love to get hired by transport pilots but rarely get more than a "hi" if anything.
- Cloaks.
- Don't use trade lanes - more time to react for you, less chance to run into pirates. Of course pirates go for chokepoints like lanes and gates.
Seriously, you play Discovery for over a decade and act like you're younger than one. Pirates are rarer than ever, fairer than ever and people are so used to using the rules as sword and shield that they forget that the moment they log into the game, they CAN get harmed, regardless of ship, ID and region. If you don't want any risk, play singleplayer. Otherwise, yes, you need to live with the fact that you can't always win, and that the people with the guns are in a better position than you are if you actively decide to fly without escorts, scouts or armaments. This isn't Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
