Can I ask how individuals subjugated within a hive mind are supposed to make an independent decision to leave that hive mind?

This honestly really feels like it's written to force Wendigos within Bretonia and Liberty to be vagrant for.. the sake of being vagrant, I guess. I was excited for a Liberty wild faction for years and I appreciate the effort but I definitely don't see the benefit to it happening like this.

Agreed. As a long-time Wild player, I need a proper breakdown of how this makes sense. I don't understand it. In my eyes turn purple it seems to undermine the point of Wild as a concept?

Well, for starters, the mindshare does not mean that the entire species is instantaneously thinking with a single mind. It's like a consensus network, where a load of different inputs are synthesized into a collective course of action. More like the Geth than the Flood.

As for the history of the thing - the Nomads once had a single mindshare / consensus network that incorporated their entire species. This was powered by the DKV energy grid that is present everywhere in Sirius. This grid was originally fuelled by the Major dyson sphere, and activating the gate prematurely put the grid into such a low power state that the mindshare starved and then collapsed.

A bunch of Nomads went mad or died from suddenly being on their own, while many others hibernated to try and conserve energy. Shortly after, groups of Nomads / Infiltrators began to form smaller, localised nodes which was the start of mindshare fragmentation.

The four most prominent groups were the Rheinland Wild (primarily infected RM survivors), Kusari "Wild" (government, KNF and KOI that were never rooted out), Omicron Nomads ("the" Nomads) who were present in the deepest Omicron Nomad worlds, and the Vagrants who were sucked through the hypergate and spat out beyond Sirius.

After the Omicron Nomads recaptured the dyson sphere and began reactivating it (around the time Toledo fell), and the Wild began mass conversion to generate energy through a DKV Power Cell, there was enough surplus energy to fully re-establish a united mindshare.

At that point, the Wild were not fully reintegrated into the primary Mindshare, and were instead incorporated as an autonomous but subordinate node on the periphery of the mindshare. This is because the Wild had done various nasty experiments on themselves and humans that Nomads deemed taboo and did not want to experience through their consensus network, but still appreciated were very useful to their ends.

So the Wild has scope to direct its own activities with a degree of freedom, while light lag and sheer distance means localised entities / Infiltrators need to show initiative on immediate issues without waiting for their node's consensus network to chew through all the options.
