OVERVIEW

As part of our Freelancer community initiatives, we have partnered with the Freelancer Community's recurring Regulancer event series.

This time around, the competition is fierce, the prizes are substantial, and the rules are tighter! Welcome to our best attempt to simulate a competitive racing event!

Racing engines are special Light Fighter mounts that allow you to travel at the Ludicrous Speed of 1,000ms. They have near instantaneous charge times, and function like a temporary speed boost - they burn your power, and once it's depleted, you'll be forced out of cruise again. They also affect your thrusters, boosting your speed to approximately 600ms.

To make good use of this pair of mechanics, you'll need to engine kill and maneuver precisely to preserve your momentum and slide around tough corners. In addition, Aingar's magic means we now have FLHook supported racing that'll track your lap times and add waypoints to each ring. This also tracks the top times for each track using a local leaderboard. We will make use of these and potential other mechanics to continue to improve your racing experience.

As we want everyone to be able to participate and this is a part of a wider pan-community event, roleplay requirements will be removed in proximity to the races. This is an opportunity to come together and have a good time, regardless of faction or ID. Staff will be hosting the event on the main Discord server's stage as well, with Regulancer's organizer Sarge streaming on Twitch. Please join us if you want to listen in to commentary!

DETAILS



Racing Overview
  • This time around, the races will be split into three parts: Warm-up, Qualifiers, and the Main Event. The first race will occur in Pennsylvania at Valley Forge (6 laps), and the second in Provence at Monte Carlo (4 laps).
  • Warm-up (20 mins): any ships can race to get used to the track and shake off the rust.
  • Qualifiers (20 mins): only registered players/teams can race to set the best time they can. Anyone can register on the spot for the individual competition, but only 2+ players together can register as a team.
  • Main Event (up to 30 mins): only players and teams that finished the Qualifiers may join the staff-hosted race. The order of joining will be strictly enforced based on Qualifier times.
  • Points are earned both by individuals and teams. The structure is outlined below. Remember, 6 laps at Valley Forge, 4 laps at Monte Carlo.

    • 7th (player & team): 2 points
    • 8th (player & team): 1 point

      Points are averaged across the two tracks. Team points are based on the average of the top 2 performers.

Racing Mechanics
  • To use some of the commands, you must select the first racing ring solar or one of the racers. This will display the track's name.
    [+]Racing Commands
    /race solo <lapCount> [raceNum] - immediately starts a solo race. Must have the first ring of the track selected. If there is more than 1 route for the track, specify the number.
    /race host [raceNum] - host a race lobby. The host is also a racer. Must have the first ring of the track selected. If there is more than 1 route for the track, specify the number.
    /race join [spectator] - joins the lobby of the targeted player (participants work as well as host) as racer(default) or spectator(if specified)
    /race setlaps <lapCount> - sets the lap count for the race. Host only
    /race start - begins the race. Host only
    /race disband - disbands the lobby if the race hasn't started yet. Host only
    /race withdraw - removes you from the race and forfeits your standing
    /race status - prints real-time stats of the race (times, checkpoints), triggers automatically when the leading player finishes a lap.
    /race info - prints info about the race (host name, loop count, participants)
  • Remember that racing engines are necessary to participate in the races.

Rule Changes
  • Drone ships are banned from setting times in the event.
  • All racers have unlimited respawns.
  • Interfering with ongoing races is forbidden. This includes deliberate bumping by the racers.
  • PvP around the racetracks is forbidden during the event.
  • RP is not required around the racetracks during the event.
  • Temporary unstable jump holes will be spawned to connect the racetracks during the event. They do not exist in the roleplay environment.

Rewards
The top 3 players and the top team are invited for an extra-special award ceremony at the end of the event. The awards are separate for each player and the team.
  • Winning team: ultra-value item (up to 40mil) & 20mil cash prize.
  • 1st place player: high-value item (up to 20mil) & 10mil cash prize.
  • 2nd place player: medium-value item (up to 10mil) & 5mil cash prize.
  • 3rd place player: low-value item (up to 4mil) & 2mil cash prize.


Betting
Each of the teams below will have an in-game account where players can send money to bet on the team. The total bet amounts will be updated daily to represent the perceived odds of them doing well. Betting will close before the start of the first race.

Payouts will be sent to the accounts that sent the money, with the amount determined by the latest odds. Odds will be generated based on the bet on each team out of the combined total bet amount across all teams. E.g. if team 1's account receives 10% of all submitted bets by closing time, their odds of winning will be 1/10. The second-place team pays out half of their first-place odds, and the third place team pays out 1/4th.

In the above example, if you bet 1mil on a team with 1/10 odds, you will get 10mil if they win, 5mil if they get second place, 2.5mil if they get third place, and nothing if they place lower.
