Vega Log Mk 1,7
Log Report 5
Mac Donagan
Position: Phoenix Fleet Engineer
Topic: Energy grid, Offense & defense subsystem

Now we arrive at the truly delicate phase of the refit: a complete overhaul of the ship’s offensive architecture.
ALG has delivered preliminary specifications for the new Vega‑class core, and, as anticipated, every legacy component—from turret pedestals to the last centimeter of power trunking—had to be stripped out.

Because a large portion of the yard crew is still committed to auxiliary projects, I initially projected at least five months for the work. So far, that estimate is holding.

Energy Grid (20 engineers & technicians assigned)
  • Energy Storage – Five banks of the latest Flux‑Lattice Super‑Capacitors have been installed around the ship in distributed cells. They provide near‑instantaneous discharge capacity and built‑in fault tolerance. Duration: 5 weeks.
  • Conversion & Conditioning – We fitted Broad‑Band Inertial‑Dampening Alternators to tailor voltage and phase for each subsystem. Installed in parallel with the storage modules. Duration: 3 weeks.
  • Distribution Backbone – A hybrid grid of Self‑Healing Power Lattice (smart‑graphene filaments) overlaid with Multi‑Layer Superconducting Busbars now runs stem‑to‑stern. This was the most labor‑intensive task, occupying one team for the full five‑month window.
  • Load Isolation & Switching – Low‑energy trunks use Picosecond Gauss Relays; high‑energy trunks are protected by Zero‑Point Breakers. Duration: 1 week.
  • Field Stabilisation & Safety – Harmonic Flux Dampers have been arrayed throughout the backbone. Duration: 2 weeks.
  • Control & Diagnostics – All probe lines are in place and will be routed to Engineering Control the moment the new core is seated.
  • Heat Rejection – Final architecture awaits ALG’s thermal‑management plan; other solution employs Liquid‑Metal Heat Loops integrated into the forthcoming armor.

The remaining personnel turned to the ship’s offensive and defensive auxiliaries. Weapon selection itself will be addressed under separate cover.

Offense (installation complete unless noted)
  • Updating turret bases with the latest Zoner units of comparable size; the geometry was almost a perfect drop‑in, so only minimal machining was needed – 7 weeks
  • ESP (Electro‑Servo‑Predictive) Stabilisers calibrated on every turret base – 2 weeks
  • Autoload Spine & Munition Elevators assembled and test‑cycled; stored in cargo until armament lockdown – 1 week
  • Smart Barrel Jackets matched to each autoloader set – 1 week
  • Fire‑Control Cogitator on‑line; full deck integration pending final gunnery fit – 1 week
  • Grav‑Locked Recoil Beds tuned; ship remains dynamically stable under simulated salvo – 6 weeks

Defense
  • Distributed Point‑Defense Sensor Nodes netted and operational – 3 weeks
  • E.M. Whip Antenna Farm erected; awaiting live jamming trials to confirm it does not blind our own arrays – 2 weeks
  • Decoy‑Forge Capsule functional; requires final signature programming for Vega profile – 7 weeks
  • Stealth / Signature Management – Baseline reduction will be provided by the new hull plating and armour composites; no additional grid components required at this stage.
  • Shield Shell emitter lattice complete; final harmonics depend on core selection – 3 weeks

Side note:
  1. We considered recruiting Laurens as an impromptu breaker test article; he, alas, retained his survival instinct and declined.
