As for alternative paths. They are acceptable, but they are not in the order. So, if something goes wrong, then write in the report that "due to sudden circumstances I made a decision..."

Once you are asked for an explanation, then this report will be the justification. Further inspections will follow (they will anyway), where they will check whether you acted reasonably. So make sure in advance that flying via Omegas is more resonant than via Sigmas. But that's only if the traffic from Hudson has any hazards on the way to Sigma 13. If not, then you follow strictly the route.

Regarding who and what to trust... The flight charts say Lex is better with his ship than you are with yours. Trust him with the scientist. Armor doesn't matter if you can't handle it. I advise checking the path in advance in the following order, with one pilot acting as a scout and the other as a carrier. The scout will be able to lay out the path and the carrier will be able to follow it.

However, this is already obvious advice, but still - it makes sense to remind you.
