Pennsylvania Homestead Impacts
PENNSYLVANIA

Project Homestead, started earlier this year, has already proven to have strong results says Bristol Bay Station executives in interviews this week.

Offering Pennsylvania residents on Planet Erie, Philadelphia Station, and Bethlehem Station the opportunity to apply for a Hegemon class Mining Vessel, the Homestead project gained nearly universal support from communities both in system and on the Neural Net. While many were doubtful on the effects or intentions of Bristol C&M, others expressed a strong belief that the Homestead could provide upwards mobility little seen in the system since the Liberty annexation.

Executives state that the program has granted a large number of families newfound economic and personal freedom as a result. One executive, who requested his name not be disclosed, stated, “Due to the Homestead, we have over twenty Hegemon vessels underway now compared to just twelve before it, and we expect to receive more applicants further into this year.”

Project Homestead has, however, not been without its issues this year.

Cleveland Station docking facilities have reported a larger than usual influx of ferries, with some having to transfer personnel by docking collar. One traffic controller onboard said, “I haven’t seen anything like this since my days at Newark.” Mining in the system, which offloads at Cleveland, has been impacted as standby times increased by 7%. The various inter-system travel agencies did report in their quarterly finances an upturn in business by numbers ranging from 140% to one experiencing a near 200% increase in bookings, though all have complaints on vessel availability. Travel from Bethlehem has been notoriously difficult, as many otherwise lawful citizens are forced to transfer to other vessels within the Ralston or Pocono at high costs.

LPI has reportedly increased patrols in the region around Planet Dudley, as stated by independent freighters moving from Planet Erie to the Jump Gate. Halts of transiting vessels are expected to be common and seizures nearly guaranteed for questioning on Planet Erie, as LPI has previously stated they suspect all vessels exiting Bethlehem for potential connections to Zoner extremists in Pennsylvania. Planet Erie residents stated in a number of interviews and polls conducted by Lighthouse For Pennsylvania, an independent watch organization, that they were dissatisfied with the increased presence and felt it violated human civil rights for those attempting to leave Bethlehem Station. Chain Link, an Erie organization concentrated on the LPI detention camps, has likewise expressed concerns as processing times on the planet are stated to be several months at least.

Multiple vessel seizures have already occurred within the Pocono Asteroid Field, numbering between two and five, with an unknown number of transients arrested. Several lawsuits are in the process of being filed against LPI specifically. There has been no official statement made by LPI representatives since the Herald reached out.

Bristol representatives have already expressed their regret at the ramifications of Project Homestead for Bethlehem residents specifically. Mr Ryan Newman, a lawyer stationed on Cleveland Station, stated in an interview earlier this week, “I think it can be universally agreed that this is not the intent the company had when it began the program. Once information develops by Liberty authorities on who was detained and why, Cleveland’s legal will be able to assess who we need to help in their exit from LPI custody. I can say that for those Zoners caught in this who had an otherwise good record, Bristol and Cleveland Station will provide legal representation for.”

We will continue to report as this story develops.
