Since the launch of the slipway, ALG has already begun preparatory work-calculations of power capacity, permissible loads, cooling systems, as well as multi-phase active and passive safety systems. Unsurprisingly, despite our previous modifications, our ship at some sort complies with modern Bismarck standards. Moreover, as I have mentioned earlier, our compartment is configured slightly differently compared to current Bismarcks; according to ALG, we will have two such reactors. This power solution is equally driven by reliability requirements-ships of this class in our region must have backup systems. This comes at the cost of safety: while a single installation could meet all needs even during active artillery operations, the question remains whether multiple power plants can operate synchronously. This is an open issue that we will discuss with their specialists later, as we will need very precise synchronizers.

According to ALG’s plan, the first task was to manufacture the reactor vessel. By the time the slipway was ready, all necessary work based on Vega’s drawings and multi-level scans had been completed, and the process of vessel differentiation began-each vessel consists of four parts:
  • Reactor core where synthesis occurs
  • Reactor lid
  • Cooling system housing
  • Safety system housing

Undoubtedly, manufacturing a vessel as a single unit would provide greater strength per unit area; however, considering operational and maintenance requirements in Livadia and at allied shipyards in remote regions-minimizing maintenance time is a priority. Casting vessels and their modules posed no issues-thanks to additional space at Memphis, both modules were produced on time. All parts underwent joint inspection using various control systems upon readiness. All parameters met Rheinland standards and our internal vessel inspection rules for thermonuclear reactors. Next, work continued inside the reactor at Memphis: internal systems were assembled and tested there as well. The reactors remained on the slipway-it was decided to complete assembly entirely at production sites and transport finished modules to Vega for easier installation and connection to ship systems.

The subsequent step involved creating the reactor cores-internal vessels of the working sections. I only have reports from our colleagues: according to them, ALG managed to quickly produce vessels suitable for high-temperature conditions. Unfortunately, the second vessel did not pass all inspections: X-ray control revealed a microcrack in the wall near its attachment point to the main body. Given the load and temperature regime of this component, a decision was made to produce a third segment that successfully passed all tests-both internal checks by ALG and our experts approved it without issues. I assume that damage to the second vessel occurred during casting due to external impact-roughly a week ago when the station was hit by a relatively large asteroid. Thanks to material reserves after casting the hulls, there were no problems creating three vessels; ALG covered all costs for defect correction. Moreover, the damaged vessel was subjected to destructive testing for full analysis of its properties. The module successfully demonstrated its characteristics after being used as a Hyperion target; we left its hull with ALG as a generous gift due to its noble metal composition. Subsequently, plasma channels were manufactured and tested-soon assembly of initial components will begin.

Despite delays caused by issues with the second vessel (a deviation of only two weeks), this result is quite acceptable compared to cases where propulsion systems of Nephilim-class ships require years or even decades for completion.

All other components-including high-efficiency magnets, their current coils, control and cooling systems, as well as reactor safety systems-were exported from their stockpiles. It’s difficult to say exactly where they were produced; each component bears proud markings "Made in Rheinland." I suspect that their warehouses after the civil war contain almost everything needed for Vega repairs-even though I didn’t interfere with this matter. Meanwhile, all wiring and cables were locally manufactured considering Memphis equipment; I have no doubt about this-even though we have sufficient cable stocks in Livadia. I would prefer not to interfere with large organizations or risk conflicts over this.

After multistage testing of equipment and components began the most critical phase-the assembly process itself. The internal reactor vessels are fully assembled and hermetically sealed inside Memphis. They were carefully transported through an airlock into open space using heavy-duty cranes-manipulators; then these modules were precisely installed inside external hulls along with covers and various auxiliary modules in finished form. Finally, all external shells were assembled and hermetically sealed. We delivered life support systems into these hulls; work inside each module has started-cabling connections, cooling pipes, turbines-all integrated into a unified system; currently two such blocks are ready for the next stage. However, before fueling begins, final inspections are required: committees from ALG Waste Disposal and Phoenix must thoroughly examine each reactor component-every nut and bolt before starting fueling procedures and initial idle tests.
