Hanamura, Mieko and Jae-un, escorted by Struikas, Kobayashi, Alexei and Kensington to their flanks in a loose echelon formation, walk up to a nearby hill. The very same where the memorial to the Abdicant Seraphine laid. Since having been modified to pay tribute to those lost in defense of FOB Maehara, and those lost during the near-decade trip back to Sirius following the return of the Ouroboros.
Struikas, being the odd one out, had joined at the request of Mieko, who wished him to be with her to help in the mourning process.
A smaller plot lays unused nearby, at the very edge. Hanamura, at the fore, steps forth, in her bodysuit, the black material shimmering feintly in the sun of Omega-48. A picture, of a young, buxom teal-haired Zoner woman, rests upon a stone burial obelisk. As with traditional Japanese and thereby, Kusari heritage, a name lays engraved upon the stone.

Whilst there is no date of birth or death demarcated, beneath in english, reads a more common epitaph. IN MEMORY OF MARISA KITA
CAPTAIN, ZS SIDON
THUS, SHE HATH NOT PERISHED FROM THIS REALM
FOR THE CALL OF THE FRONTIER BECKONED HER FORTH
AS ALL ZONERS ARE TO DO, SHE UNDERTOOK THE HELM
IN OUR HEARTS, AND IN THE STARS, IS HER HEARTH
WEEP NO MORE TEARS, NOT ONE MORE CRY TODAY
FOREVER MORE WILL SHE WATCH OVER US
HER LIGHT SHALL GUIDE THE WAY
Hanamura steps forth, stalwart, but trying to keep her emotions in check, holding a bouquet of flowers. She speaks.
"We come here today.. to celebrate and mourn the long missing, and likely deceased.. Marisa Kita. Daughter. Friend. Zoner.
On Earth.. we had a saying. 'You never know what you have.. until it's gone.' For me.. Marisa and I spent quite some time together.. but sadly her travels, oft kept her away from home. To me.. a part wishes, I could have come with her. That Marisa could have seen.. the great women that Mieko and Jae-un have become, as they integrated into our physical world. To see.. my diligence, and will.. to see our home through one of the most tumultuous times in its' history.. and.. to possibly have at least.. been there.. for us, as my calling came to be.
Marisa was true to the Zoner way - seeking peace and exploration amongst the stars, curiosities abound about so many things. Thanks to her.. she had showed me so much. Taught me so much, about this once strange.. dark world -- in a time of my life where the only friends I had.. were the two next to me right now. Marisa.. reminded me so much.. of home. And my yearning for my family.. to be with them again.. to be whole once more. Marisa.. satiated a part of that. That joie de vivre, that optimism and hope for the future and tomboy attitude. That.. is what I fell in love with her for. What made me hang on to every hope to see her just one more time after she would venture into the black."
Hanamura stops for a moment, trying to keep her composure as tears slowly start to manifest from her eyes in the chilly yet bright weather.
"No longer. Once again, this cruel world sent another into that good night. One who didn't deserve to go - when so many heartless.. monstrous people still linger amongst the living.
But. We shall not let Marisa go into that good night. We shall rage for her, rage against the dying of the light. In our hearts, even of those who have not met her, through tales, memories and name alone, we shall keep that flame alight. And as she burns among the stars like a star, she shall preserve us -- in the hopes that one day, the powers that be will reunite us all."
Nodoka, holding back once more, recites an old Freelancer's poem, her voice cracking as she does under the emotional stress.
"Eyes forward, pilot, the waypoint is not yet set.
Consider your armament, your shield, and hull before you undock,
for the waypoint is not yet set.
Burst into the jump hole and witness the universe before you,
for the waypoint is not yet set.
Set your ship to fly towards the nebulae while you wait,
for the waypoint is not yet set.
Pay attention, pilot, for those who have gone before you
call for you to join them."
Holding back tears, and keeping sobbing at bay, she utters the final line.
"The waypoint.. is now set."
Struikas, as Hanamura lays down the bouquet, comes forth. As she ascends, he places a warm hand around her in comfort. He utters a phrase common in the Legion, but here, holding significant, unique meaning - a blessing of the deceased.
"Libera te, ex inferis. Non omnis moriar." Liberate yourself, from hell. Not all of us will die.
"From the stars you came, to the stars you will go, as will we all. You brought these women into our lives, and passed us the baton. We.. will carry it willingly, into the night - ever greatful for your gift. Thank you, Miss Kita."
Alexei comes forth to give his words.
"I remember often seeing her.. coming and going from the Freeport. After Nodtviet's assault.. she was one of the first to come to our aid. 11 was her home. Such a small place in our hearts, made all of the difference in the world. Dare I say.. were it not for her bringing Hanamura to that place. We would not be here today. Нехай зірки там будуть ласкаві до неї та покладіть її на спокійний сон. Нехай твоя пам'ять спочиває тут, у серці Зонерів, на ґрунті, багатому любов'ю, життям, радістю. Як ти дав нам. Спочивай з миром, товаришу."
He lays down a circular patch, encased in a hard plastic - the former seal of Freeport 11. Mieko and Bride too come forth, bearing parting gifts. Mieko, laying down the white obi from her old kimono she wore in her first days amongst the physical world - And Jae-un, her old shotgun's magazine. As the two rise again, Bride gives the two-fingered Harpy Squadron salute. "Rest easy, Mari." she says, as the group moves to depart.
Here lies the memory of one who binded fate beyond her wildest imagination. And from it, friendships flourished and were born.
