Recruiting Officer: "Now, we want to get to know you. Please tell us your full name, your profession, and... essentially your life."
Scott Bradley: "Alright, [clear throat], well, my name is Scott Lewis Bradley, or Scott L. Bradley, or just Scott Bradley, and I'm currently a, what you could say, a "veteran" Freelancer, pilot, and trader."
XXXXXI was born on California Minor, California System, Liberty; to unknown parents who had put me up for adoption. I've been adopted by a similarly-unknown family and moved to Planet Los Angeles until I became an adult, that is. After that, I decided it was time for me to leave my adoptive parents, who, unfortunately, shortly after, died of natural causes. I didn't visit them at all after I thought was the beginning of my own life. I didn't even visit their graves. Anyway.
XXXXXA few months following that; I met a few, in hindsight quite shady, "Freelancer" pilots, and "traders", who offered me a job: escorting them from Planet Los Angeles, to Planet Pittsburgh. They didn't expect me to survive, as it was a trap laid out by Independent Pirates, but I somehow did, I was saved by a nearby patrolling Liberty Navy squadron, who rescued him from space after the ship they gave me, a rundown Starblazer blew up, from explosives set-up near the engines, an engineer said after examining the wreck.
XXXXXOf course, having a free ship and getting a job offered straight after doing hard work was the most basic of honeypots, should've seen that coming. I thought maybe it wasn't a trap, and by then, I was out of money by then. Doing odd jobs such as cleaning up landing pads on Planet Los Angeles to finish the months in California isn't the best of prospects. After being rescued, I had saved up enough money to buy a Kestrel-class freighter, which I still have, probably the only thing that didn't betray me, except the engines.
XXXXXAfter a while of odd jobs here and there, I had enough to buy another Starblazer, and continued to escort prospective traders, I visited nearby Bretonia, then the Border Worlds. I figured there was a whole other world than my place on Planet Los Angeles, or California in general. Then, I bought a Jackdaw, I've been doing quite well by then, and my prices to escort traders went up. It got exponential for a while, until it stopped. My ship's reactor took fire while escorting a trader in Liberty, and I crashed, again, in an asteroid while trying to shoo away a bunch of pirates flying Bloodhounds, only to be rescued by yet another Liberty Navy squadron. That's when my desire to actually join them grew. By then, I decided it would be good, to "convert" those odd jobs into something more... concrete, more... real. So I went up to a recruitment office, and was offered a place in a large crew on an Archer-class Cruiser. But it didn't last, as I couldn't get enough money by then, and it took me too far away. So I went back to Planet Los Angeles.
XXXXXBut my faith in my country never faltered. When the Gallic War happened, I originally signed up to join the Navy proper, but I was still having money issues back then. Couldn't join right away. So I got shunned even more; "why wasn't I in the front lines?", "why am I here, while Leeds is burning?", and other frankly embarrassing questions, which ended up becoming the norm for me back then. Now I think it is high time for me to join. I've a good apartment on Planet Los Angeles, I know those Pirates who pretended to be "innocent Freelancers", are in prison as we speak, my life settled. And now...
Sometimes, I think about those pilots who saved me back then. And I keep thinking, maybe I can make a difference now. I can help people. I can help safeguard our House. I know it won't be a perfect road, nothing is. I'm not delusional, but I still steadfastly believe in our House.
And this is who I want to be.
