When I tried to stand The Banished Legion (LGN) up (and was still bothering to login and play), I pirated regularly in the Omegas--mostly those passing through with Iridium or Gold as that route tends to pass through there, mostly Omega-5. Normally, I'd run into one of four individuals.
1 - Silent runners who just engage cruise over and over again trying to escape usually resulting in their death.
2 - Silent engagers who usually try to run at the same time while firing everything they have at me--also resulting in their death.
3 - People who get really pissed off both in system chat and private chat out of character, flaming you, insulting you, and taunting you if they manage to escape--time to open a VR.
4 - Genuine roleplayers who enjoy the encounter and both parties walk away satisfied.
1 through 3, I just killed outright after figured out how the encounter was going to play out. I'd take their cargo (I was in a frigate) and would sell it at the highest place that I could--usually netting myself a nice profit. The 4th type of player was so uncommon that they could almost not be mentioned. Keep in mind, I did this for around about four days or so. I think I ran into maybe(?) three individuals that was a fun encounter (with one being CDI giving me a citation for my ship being a mess, lmao). The rest were just shitbags--encounters that I'd rather forget to be perfectly honest.
Eventually I just gave up. Why should I spend my time outside of work dealing with this annoyance?
TL;DR - Most common encounters as a pirate are silent runners, silent engagers, and OORP insults. With that being the case, what is even the point of playing a pirate?
You fear oblivion. Yet you forget. The universe remembers every atom of your being. Even dust hums your name in the dark. Roleplay is dead. Long live Powertraders and PvP I guess.
