Subject - Expedition Preparations

Transmission - It has been quite a while since I have had anything meaningful to report. We still get signals from 351, although weaker and less frequent. They're strange. Almost questioning. The data doesn't look like anything we programmed. Because of that, we've been ordered to continue.

The higher-ups have deemed it fit to charter a civilian Research Vessel, from the boffins at Cambridge. It's a liner, something that'll truly stand out like a sore thumb if that goes all the way out to the Omicrons. It stands out in New London, it has no chance.

I know you'll read this, but I've always been told to speak my mind, so I won't apologise. This was, frankly, an awful decision.

Anyway, I've been on board the Athena, she's a nice vessel. We've been conducting training out in Manchester, taking readings and samples from the old testing ground around Warrington. The kit we've been using must be top of the range, it's fantastic. It's certainly making the testing a lot easier. Of course, the sterile area around Warrington also aids in our tests. Not sure Kappa will be anything like this. That's if we make it. We'll probably end up as one of those tales, like you hear about the Fearless.

We still don't know when we'll be setting sail into the unknown. Some say tomorrow, some say we never will. I hope we never do.

While I do want to find out what's causing these strange signals, I'd rather it weren't being done in something that screams shoot me.

I have put forwards a proposal that we take a smaller vessel to scout the area before committing such a large resource to an unknown area. Whether or not I'll get my wish, I don't know. The head shed is planning something big, not for this operation, but something else. I guess I'll just have to hope that my prayers are answered.

For now we'll continue training on this new equipment. I hope for my sake that someone sees sense.
