LOGBOOK
CV CARKADAN

February 03, 836 A.S.

We're broke again.

But! The Carkadan is in finer shape than she ever has been. Or at least than she has been since she got wrecked in Bering. Now, I think we did a pretty good job of getting her up and running and maintaining her over the past eight or so years, given our meager financial means and even meagerer understanding of Rheinland Military hardware. And when I say we did a good job, I really mean Felix. He did do most of the work, after all, what with being a professional mechanic and a Rheinlander and therefore at least being able to make sense of the instruction manuals.

All that to say that when we brought the Carkadan into the Ring's drydocks, the locals dock crews doubled over laughing at us. Kraut pricks. She may not have been pretty after the extensive and admittedly haphazard repairs we performed on her, but she was pressurized and flying under her own power and only nearly killed us a few times, and that's really what matters most in the end.

The Krauts stopped laughing once I showed the dock master my receipt from the Buro des Marine nackrick nachrisht BDM and a sizeable credit check. And let me tell you, the Krauts really get to work when you offer them the proper motivation. Felix, of course, joined them, what with the Carkadan having become somewhat of his baby over the past years. He couldn't let strangers run all over her and mess with his pet project without him constantly looking over their shoulders.

In the end, the repairs and refit cost us just about every last credit we had, but it was worth it. The Cark' looks just about like new, or at least as new as she can look while still adhering to the constraints of our historical license. The Rheinlanders even managed to scrounge up some spare parts for our two Vierlings and the Brummbar, replacing the burnt out capacitor banks and alignment coils. They should actually be able to fire straight now without cooking half the ship, meaning we now have a complete, functional armament. The Carkadan's back to being a proper corvette.

Well, she looks like one from the outside at any rate. The inside is still in something of a state. The repairs we did to the internal superstructure, the electronics, and the computer systems have become such a convoluted mess over the years that the Krauts refused to even engage with them. That's fine. We couldn't have afforded any more work being done anyway. Meaning Felix will still have plenty of fooling around to do to keep him occupied and happy.

Belle, on the other hand, wasn't so pleased with that. She'd been hoping the Rheinlanders would help us turn the ship's insides into something that finally less resembled an ongoing construction site and more a proper home. I sent her down to New Berlin with Louise to distract her with some site seeing and maybe buy a few knickknacks for the Cark', to make her feel a bit cozier. We'll just have to find some more jobs to do and when we have the money again, we'll make the Cark' worth living in.

Until then, we're broke.
