From: Inspector Grace O'Sullivan, CDI. To: COCS Database Topic: Update on the expansion of the prison estate. Clearance: SENSITIVE
Following the decommissioning of BPA Parkhurst, the Bretonian prison estate has been struggling with acute overcrowding.
This is already causing an increased rate of violent unrest within holding facilities on Planet Sprague in particular. As a result, the CDI received a one-time funding grant from the Home Office to procure temporary overflow facilities.
After encountering practicality issues with obtaining real estate on Sprague itself, we have instead successfully procured a passenger liner that was being retired from active service in the Bamburgh Company. Bamburgh have overseen a number of refits to allow us to effectively use the vessel as a prison hulk.
A final inspection has been scheduled for tomorrow, after which we anticipate taking possession of the ship and preparing for a deployment to Omega-3. Pilots on rota for spaceborne patrol are expected to assist with escorting the HMPS Berwyn to its holding position near the Wilkes Junction
From here, the Berwyn will be responsible for receiving inbound convicts for processing, and then overseeing deportations primarily to Rheinland.
The Berwyn will be primarily receiving Rheinland nationals that have committed crimes within Bretonian territory, or other Criminals captured in Bretonia with outstanding priority warrants in Rheinland territories. These commonly include Corsair, Coalition, and Red Hessian pilots.
