Intelligence Report

Captain/Pilot Name - S. Lewis

Vessel Name - Raider Traquair

Subject - URGENT - Assistance Required

Transmission -

Stonepaper. STONEPAPER.

This is Lewis on the Traquair, we're currently in Tau-44. We need immediate assistance from Red Brick.

Reacting to intelligence we've captured something, this could be huge. Power readings from this device were off the charts. Need to get it out and away to safety as soon as we can. This requires immediate action.

Following intercepted communications about a derelict Zoner vessel in the Burgundy system, our closest asset was deployed to investigate these claims.

At around 1505 the CV Traquair, a commerce raider, slipped her moorings at Oban Station, Tau 31. Her Bretonia Mining and Manufacturing IFF was replaced with a generic freelancer one, to further her chances of slipping through the contested space of Tau 23 without harassment, which she did successfully.

Upon entry to Tau 44, a wing of remnant Royalist Naval forces set upon her, thankfully a Crayter wing was not far behind them. With the aid of the Crayterians, Traquair was able to continue her journey to the Burgundy jump hole, which was found to be in an unstable state, but perfectly navigable for a ship of her size.

Following the sensor blindness that occurs after such a jump, scanners returned to normal, with no other ships on scopes.

The intelligence suggested the derelict vessel would be around the large, red, gas giant in the system. Initial scans did not indicate that this was the case. Unfortunately the Traquair’s sensor suite is more suited to cargo scanning than the ship's surroundings. However, due to the search pattern that was adopted, the derelict appeared at maximum range after a few long minutes of searching.

Initial scans of the vessel, by Lt P. Sims, suggested the reactor was giving off immense power signatures that fluctuated. The engineering officer aboard, Lt A. Thomas, was further able to scan the vessel once distance had closed to within 10k. This further data suggested that the power fluctuations were instead coming from a device in the cargo holding of what turned out to be a Serenity class vessel by the name Chaos Theory.

The images filling the viewscreens initially looked as though the vessel was in a good condition, however as the Traquair crept ever closer it was apparent that the gravitational forces exerted on the hull had done a number on it. This was not going to be a simple job, hampered further by the realisation the ship’s grapples, used to attach tethers, were inoperable since the earlier engagement.

With time ebbing away and the Chaos Theory slipping further into the gas giant’s atmosphere, it was decided that the best course of action was to use a single shot from Tranquair’s guns to persuade the cargo bay doors to open. After an initial failed attempt, Traquair moved ever closer, this time able to land a shot on the already buckled cargo door. Unfortunately this caused the still pressurised hull to vent the gasses aboard, plunging the vessel further into the planet.

This did not dissuade Cpt S. Lewis, who dove the Traquair through the ever increasing storm to follow the stricken derelict. With a stroke of good favour, the binds lashing the power device to the derelict gave in to the gravitation forces, enabling a tractor beam to be engaged and pull the device into the Traquair.

With their mission complete, the Traquair returned to friendlier space to carry out minor repairs following her brush with death.

Please find my report above.

We have secured the device as best we can, but we're not sure we can shield the emissions from being detected.

We will await assistance in the usual coordinates.

Lewis out.
