Ward, Marjorie.

I hail from the planet Los Angeles. I witnessed and participated directly in the war between the Liberty Republic and the then-existing Rheinland Federation. This House is now known as the Rheinland Empire. I was a member of the Hellfire Legion during a period when the Liberty proved their commanders not just incompetent, but incompetent: they literally sold out our comrades for credits and seriously hoped that we, those who survived, would die. What they didn't take into account was that our authority among our comrades was greater than that of the Admiralty.

And then we came here. To Veracruz. We swore an oath to the then-existing Commonwealth and vowed to protect the people of this planet at all costs. With the advent of the New Regime, we had no intention of waging a fratricidal war against our comrades, and the Commonwealth itself did not live up to its expectations: the Government turned out to be far from being the kind of people who honored the ideals of freedom.

The formation of our Battlegroup came during that difficult period, when the Insurgency was already facing its demise: the Liberty were on the outskirts of Veracruz, and so the actions of each of us were purely patriotic for our people. You could say we were a motley group of volunteers, members of Harmony and the Legion. In short, we were people from all over, whose primary goal was to save what little we had left.
  • We played our part in rescuing refugees from the planet Veracruz and allowing them to find refuge in Yuma or Erie.
  • We have thrown all our efforts into organizing the transfer of refugees as far as possible from the active combat zone.
  • We played a role in the destruction of the Delaware, one of the most important Liberty battleships at the time, dispelling the myth of their invincibility.
  • And we reminded the Republic that even while surrounded, we can show up at their sanctuary - their beloved Long Island. And what's more, we went there, giving the rest a chance to leave before the final chord came.

Do you want to know what I fought for? For my people. I was loyal to Veracruz until my last breath, loyal to his people, who managed to survive all the hardships and tribulations and find a better home. And I will be very glad if those who are now under the yoke of Liberty, those who once lived on Veracruz, can regain their freedom, and not fear that they have been deprived of the life that they have been chasing for so many years. This is our revenge on the Republic for the grievances it has inflicted upon us.

They took Veracruz from us. Our home. We will take Erie from them.

My commanders and comrades are dead. Most of them. A good half of them were not from the Legion, but from Harmony. And together, we formed what was called the Insurgency. But all of them died for the right cause.

The honor of none of us was tarnished.

Sincerely,

Jim Alber
