Duke.
Having to do the unsavory in order to fund the necessary, people will call that a lot of things, but one thing it isn't is selfish. What's a man supposed to do when he's denied the means to look after his fellows legitimately? When work barely pays, if at all, and where it's more likely that falling beneath the poverty line sees you relegated to a factory line for a quota?
The irony's never been lost on me, that these would-be emperors cage us and then chastise us for lashing out like animals. Man's not born to live under political or economic imprisonment. It agitates the soul something fierce, like we're conditioned to hate it before our mothers even nurse us for the first time.
So one thing a man cannot be, in response to the world we live in, is neutral. I don't fault the Zoners for trying, and for surviving by their virtues, dying by them even when necessary. But survival's not living, and we are destined for greater things than to be held back.
The sector's grandest piece of irony is that it's actually quite cheap to buy the rope with which to strangle our oppressors, particularly because they're the ones selling it to us.
And so I say this wholeheartedly: welcome home. Someone will pick you up from Fontana shortly.
