The mission assigned to the 2nd Meros in the Omegas region has seen an unexpected complication.
ACV Andraste was conducting patrol operations in the Omega-47 system. Andraste, Sentinel Strider in command, encountered the IMG Bustard-class vessel GSV Borobudur on survey duties. Both parties proceeded to meet at Madeira Base, where the IMG Hegemon-class vessel Stellar Consequence, captained by one Guildmaster Rutherford, was waiting. After a quick transfer of Guildmaster Albert Schulze from Madeira to the Borobudur, conversation regarding the uncharted Omegas followed for a few minutes and was eventually interrupted by a detonation aboard the Stellar Consequence, significantly damaging its engines. After dispatching SAR teams and fighter escorts, Paladin Javari Crosby, callsign "Conductor", observed weapons fire aboard the damaged Hegemon. Sentinel Strider recalled the SAR teams and prepared marines for boarding operations, coordinating with the Borobudur and Madeira defense forces to take back the ship. Warden Gaius Rossi was in command of this team. Upon cutting and breaching into the vessel, numerous assailants with no clear identification opened fire on Auxo marine units, leading to the death of Initiate Sally Endesha. Marine units advanced forward, securing the bridge and relieving Rutherford's forces pinned down by enemy infiltrators and pressing onwards to the power core to reinforce the Borobudur's team.
At this point, scans revealed the presence of Nomad incubi within key members of the enemy infiltration team. Protocol changed to ensure proper sterilization of contaminants. Upon reaching the power core, Initiate AX-490-2 destroyed a blockading bulkhead to gain access to the core and allow the team to push in. During the breach, two marines were wounded: Initiate Chen Jiang and Warden Fabio Cruz, with the latter currently in critical condition. Enemy attempts to destroy the power core with planted charges were thwarted by the combined strength of the defenders. Out of assumed desperation, the remaining attackers attempted to destabilize the power core with weapons fire in the hopes that the reactor housing was not sufficient to prevent energy discharges from melting through. Without orders, Initiate AX-490-2 used their chassis to block incoming fire and prevent a potentially cataclysmic meltdown, buying time for the others to eliminate all remaining hostiles. Their chassis has been damaged beyond feasible repair, and efforts are underway to attempt to salvage their data core.
In the midst of combat, explosives planted upon Madeira's communications array and one of its hangar bay doors detonated, allowing for a singular Dromedary-class freighter, heavily modified to enhance performance, to exit the damaged hangar at speed in an attempt at fleeing the scene. "Conductor" pursued the fleeing vessel, firing a cruise disruptor and disabling the freighter's engines. The resulting loss of power damaged the engines and led to a loss of control the pilot was unable to recover from, culminating in a fatal collision with an asteroid. "Conductor" recovered an active alien artifact from the wreckage which was then transported back to the Andraste for quarantine.
With the cessation of hostilities, the marines sent to the Stellar Consequence attended to the wounded aboard and began standard infection containment protocols. Sentinel Strider informed the Guildmasters of the containment of the artifact and the necessity of conducting sterilization protocols aboard all affected areas. Light interrogation of Guildmaster Rutherford revealed that the artifact recovered from the Dromedary was given to the IMG by a "treasure hunter" from Kusari flying a vessel known as the Heavenly Koi. Additionally, Guildmaster Rutherford has requested the Andraste remain in the area and provide training and resources to Madeira personnel to better combat threats related to this one. The Andraste will be remaining in the area regardless to conclude containment and sterilization procedures in according with standard protocol. Attached to this report is a compilation of comms traffic and guncam footage relevant to the incident.
It is my recommendation that a more active presence be placed alongside those surveying the deeper Omegas. The desire by groups in the region and elsewhere to explore and exploit this new frontier represents a powder keg that could ignite with the wrong flashpoint, as seen tonight. It is imperative that we guide these instincts in a safe and productive manner, preventing our enemies from imperiling many of our friends and allies.
