Senior Kusari admiral assassinated
PLANET NEW TOKYO - Anonymous sources within the Kusari State Police have confirmed that Admiral Goro Okamoto has been assassinated in his New Tokyo home. Aged 79, Admiral Okamoto was one of the most senior and influential officers of the Kusari Naval Forces, and had been instrumental to the development of Kusari's Naval doctrine and defensive strategy in the decades following the Colony Wars.
Admiral Okamoto initially rose to fame within Kusari as the long-serving captain of the Battleship Matsumoto, which fought at the forefront of the Tau War against Bretonia and later Gallia. He reprised this role during Kusari's later invasion of Gallia, leading the advance through Rishiri into Lorraine and then Burgundy. Okamoto is controversially believed to have penned the order authorising the desolation of Lorraine during Kusari's retreat from the theatre, and allegedly oversaw the bombardment of Planet Metz' orbital mirrors.
Sources close to the matter confirmed that authorities were currently investigating Liberty's involvement in the killing, stating recovered evidence indicated the three-man hit squad were LSF operatives. They further noted that Admiral Okamoto had been due to depart for Shikoku to assume command in the near future, motivating the brutal attack.
