Greetings, my Good Doctors!

I have an odd little story to share with you today

*wipes a tear from his eye while flashing a lopsided smile*

While I was tooling around Omicron Mu today, dodging danger for SCIENCE, my scanners picked up some nomnom tissue readings along a well-traversed trade route near the local Freeport*.

When I careened by and came to an elegant, sliding stop near the wreckage I discovered some trace readings of adapted nomad material and (surprise of all surprises) a battered flight recorder!

The log tells a sad, yet mundane story. I have attached the actual decrypted file but indulge me as I recount the tale using all the evidence at my disposal:

The unremarkable life of the Molly wildcat miner, Raymond Javadi, is mostly lost to time. We know that he lost his job recently (probably due to his age-- possibly due to illness) and had nothing "much to show for [his] life but [his] old ship"-- an unassuming mining transport, a Mule, with the designation "Dundalk Gem."

He evidently set off with a cargo of wildcat gold to see the stars. Maybe a miner newsfeed told him of a good buyer in the Omicrons.

In any case, he made it to his point of sale (in his unarmored craft, no worse for the wear) and used part of his earnings to buy a couple of Adapted Nomad Cannons for the ride back. A reasonable precaution, I should think.

I really want to imagine he enjoyed his travels, gazing at the wonders of the universe outside of Dublin-- seeing the beauty he had always imagined while seated stolidly behind his mining lasers, blasting rocks, unable to answer the call that beckoned him to seek out something more.

I believe he was at peace with his life. Him. His old ship. His empty cargo hold. Eyes locked on the purple skies.

That's when he meets the Order cruiser.

This pedant sees only a cockroach, scurrying where it is not welcome. I don't think Javadi knew anything about rules or trespass. I don't think he was a complete rube-- he had to know the dangers-- but he was next to a Freeport*, he carried no cargo, he was just there to see the things he had never been able to see while he slaved away for someone else's convenience.

He paid for it with his life.

But he rushed into his death! He welcomed it! He joked around as he realized he was about to be blasted to bits.

He laughed in the face of all the silly laws we make, cordoning off sections of Gaia, the All Mother Herself, as if we can "own" anything. Silly, silly, silly, silly, SILLY (humans).

And so he was returned to the Mother-- perhaps he heard the merest whisper of Her voice, welcoming him into Her bosom-- evidently without firing a single shot.

Unarmored. Without cargo. On a Mule.

*CORRECTION: Technically the nearby base is Memphis Industrial Compound (ALG)-- having never docked there I confused it with a Freeport (I'm sure our unfortunate Javadi was none the wiser).

[05.05.2026 01:55:11] Javadi: It's been a good life... terminal diagnosis.

[05.05.2026 01:55:30] Javadi: I guess I'll just look at all this beauty before I go
