' Wrote:wise man once say:

'You can never say enough good things to people.... but one bad comment is already overkill.'

*WARNING* Angelfire is mounting his soapbox.

I work with many people who are somehow mislead into thinking that being nasty or rude is a 'right', I chuckle to myself.

Ironically today two immensely talented brothers came to pitch a movie they are working on to me.

Their skills as writers are remarkable, their directing however, needs a bit of refinement.

I respectfully mentioned this to them and one of the brothers condescendingly informed me that I was 'entitled to my opinion'.

Here's the thing.

You are indeed able to speak your mind freely, with whichever tone you desire..... if.... (and it's a BIG 'if').... you are willing to lose people who sometimes will have the power to change your life.

I consider manners as a form of preparation for success, The more I respect the feelings of humankind as a whole, the harder I can push doors to open.

One of my clients is my age (34). He is a very friendly fellow with a great liking for tequila. He is also extremely wealthy and very well connected.

Observation no 1: He does not need more stress, he gets that all day every day from his staff and suppliers.

Observation no 2: He does not need more friends. He gets to pick and choose those as he pleases. Success has a way of drawing crowds.

Observation no 3: This guy can change my life with one signature or phone call. I could end up relaxing on a beach somewhere doing anything I see fit with my time!

My point?

The world is full of people with such power and, even though this is just a game and most of us are just kids, every word we speak in this life is a job interview or a first date.

What has all this to do with this topic?

If I lived in the UK, Joe would have an uber cushy, high paying job. I couldnt care less about his skill, it's his attitude that blows me away. He gives a damn. (I would employ him first and find a place he would excel in later. )
Those writers I mentioned earlier, talented as they are, will have to find their funding elsewhere... for one stupid comment!

Why?

Am I touchy? Over sensitive? A control freak?.

Nope.

I have many staff whom I consider when I employ people. I owe it to them to make sure that the people who will work alongside them or manage them are just as amazing as they are and in my books, if someone is willing to fight for their right to be insensitive.... well, they're entitled to their opinion.... elsewhere.

mwaaahahahahaaa!

Amen, Angelfire.
This topic was created to bring to mind the harshness that has been going around the forums. (And, undoubtedly, proved it.) Angelfire brings a point into the equation that will enlighten all of those who read it: "every word we speak in this life is a job interview or a first date." This is an absolute truth. Everybody should treat anything they write as if it could change their lives, so that it comes out clean, well written, and over all; just more well-hearted. All those who care enough to put that amount of thought into what they write will go very far, and earn some respect for the writer.

ok
