the primary question is - why would the zoners gather and form up a group. - zoners as such ARE a group, but not by their own definition, but by their way of life and by definition of others. it is some sort of a paradoxon to think of zoners and playerfaction. - a unified "idea" is what defines a zoner and ties him to other zoners. - but along with that idea of freedom comes the urge to be independent ( and for the first time, the word "independent" might be used in a way its intended to be used - and not as a non-playerfaction player that is at no accounts independent when he joined a NPC faction - but this time, its meant in a way that a zoner really wants to be less dependent on the ideas of the core systems )

now - what happens when the zoners form up a playerfaction. - they become what the core system is.... a community with ranks, with personal limitations. - what sets them apart from - lets say.... the GMG then.

i think that zoners organize on a level of stations and influence. - zoners are highly interested in other peoples affairs. - they go along a great efford to ensure that the wars that rage are not likely to end too soon - and in this manner, they are indeed ... neutral. they do not favour any side, - but they favour the side that could loose. - they might strengthen this side to make sure that the war can go on.

the only exception are the nomads that are ( ideally ) no ones allies and as such, not to be influenced by foreign politics and intrigues. - politics and intriguing is what the zoners do though - and as they get no grip on the nomads, they cannot control them, which leads to a vacuum of control - which then sets the nomads to be the only hostile faction ( along with their minions ).

now - what happens when zoners form up and organize.

forming up like that is almost equal to stepping out of the shadow into the spotlight. - the greatest weapon of the zoners is that they do have influence, but no one will really be able to determine how and how much they influence others. - they are in the background, and make others execute ideas that those others believe to be their own ideas. - even if they are not, but just whispered suggestions.

by exposing oneself though, - one becomes the actor oneself, instead the prompter. such a situation is dangerous and detrimental for the zoners way. - now we do have a zoner faction - the TAZ. but they do not claim to be THE zoners, but rather a group of zoners that follow some specific ideals - they are but a minority, influencial, but by no means representative.

the most organized institution that exists that is beneficial when it comes to being tightly organized is the zoner council - which happens to be "nothing but a forum for independent zoners" - one zoner, one voice.

now - as a player.... i believe that a faction of zoners claiming to be THE zoners will cause more trouble than is in any way beneficial for the NPC faction. - the AW tried to be a zoner based group... and ended up torn and criticized to be no zoners at all. discussion, subtlety and indirect steering is what zoners do - treats that are hard to accomplish in a game like freelancer which - after all - still focusses on good old dogfights to finally solve a matter.

so the question is:

what good will a faction do for the zoner faction ( NPC faction ) - how do you actually support the idea of zoners?
why do you require a playerfaction organization for it - why can you not do it as a group of non-factionized players. - what does the power that is associated with a playerfaction do to support your ideal and what are the dangers that might endanger it.
and finally - if you are RPing semi pacifistst that love to manipulate others on a political level - will there be a "long term motivation" to keep the faction running? or would it rather be only event based. - in other words... is it worth making a faction for it at all.
