I think the counter proposal to your discourse is that, if you encounter someone who could potentially kill you -- or is inclined to based off of faction relations -- then do not expect anything, not even admonition prior to him launching lasers up your exhaust pipe. I digress though and say that what you have there is the way RP should be handled. The only issue with it is that people are very unruly.

Also, if someone has an 'unordinary' character and expects everyone to understand that they have a certain seniority over being reduced to a cloud of dust and debris; think again. Just 'cuz you're a former Outcast from the Uncharted Planet of Lackadaisical who's broken away from his past to perssue a career as a trader won't mean Mr. Pirate will sympathise with your RP and reconsider plundering you.
