Or a smaller powerplant? If you were to buy the cap now it wouldn't receive the powerplant upgrade. You said it wouldn't be for combat anyway so it wouldn't matter much, but the less effective powerplant could be used to show that the ship has been retro-fitted for more room. Then there's the slacking on Armour upgrades or not using all the weapon slots.
