I think:

1) Privateers attack in Kyushu - retrieve prisoner (ship is taken over by Brinkley) take through tau 23 (not chased)

2) KNF race through Tradelanes to Tau 31, second, bigger battle happens there - indies and BAF re-enforcements arrive
Ships can respawn - FP6 for Privateers, planet Kyushu for KNF
2 stage event, simpler.

Repeat as necessary until BAF win.

This was the plan.
