but what "excuse" to you mean? - to be better in a small scale fight? - we ARE talking about designated roles in RP - not how they re used on our server.

but ... what do you prefer to fly in a 1 vs. 1 ....

- a sabre VHF
- or a rapier HF / switchblade

what do you like to fly in a mass battle...

- a rapier / switchblade
- or a sabre

... we also need to consider that in RP, house militaries order thousands of ships to be produced. - so when liberty orders 100.000 fighters - it DOES matter that the defender is some hundred thousand credits cheaper while having a good dps and protection.

for a player however - that fact is insignificant. - he ll gladly pay millions more to achieve a fraction of more protection.
