--Begin Personal log, 621187--

I just managed to work out how to get this darn log working. There I was desperately looking around for an alphanumeric input panel, muttering about stuff, and it says "Please repeat". Voice recognition is pretty good. I didn't realise this ship was so advanced. This does feel slightly uncomfortable, talking to the ship's computer. I guess that it would be faster than an alphanumeric panel.

Cruise engines are on the blink. Half the time, they don't start up. The guns on it barely scare away rogues. I might as well throw my rations at them; they're absolutely disgusting! Another weird thing about this ship: I can't seem to fill my cargo hold. The computer refuses to increase the load past 79 tons. I don't think my Rhino is up to the job at all; one day it'll get me killed or worse - blow itself up. I've worked so hard for this; to see space as I did in my childhood is like a dream; I'd hate to lose that now, only a few weeks after seeing space again.

I really need a new ship, but I can't afford one, yet. I wish I could find an organisation to work for. Apparently they will help you buy a ship. I think the Trader organisations must be worried about the recent surge of ion storms. I wish I could remember who it was that my father worked for. It wasn't the Junkers, that's for sure. I've seen a lot of them around lately. Still, I don't mind, as long as they leave me alone.

A Navy guy, officer, I think, requested to see my pilot's license recently. How stupid of me to leave it on Los Angeles. He 'escorted' me back there... but I don't remember getting there. I think I blacked out or something. His presence certainly made me nervous: I didn't want to go to prison just because of a silly mistake. He was rather rude, though. I'm concerned that he should worry about a small-time trader who happened to have forgotten his license over more important matters.

Outcast attacks seem to be increasing. Their armament is formidable; their cannons make short work of my shields. Thankfully, my cruise engines have saved me so far.

I think I'll leave it for the night. There seems to be a wave of ion storms all over liberty, and absolutely no warnings. What happened to the advanced weather-monitoring stations they deployed recently? It's far too risky to trade in these conditions.

--End recording--
