I bring news of great victory and the first strike in our vengeance against Das Wilde. On patrol I received a long-distance communique from an old, dear friend of ours. I responded in kind.
It would not seek me out directly, however I could not ignore its presence after being tipped off by one of our convoys feeding me intel.
I found it down on the Stuttgart trade lane, only precious minutes from Kreuzberg. I set my cybernetic Nomad Hunter systems online, slaving navigational and gunnery systems to my complete control.
It closed distance and opened fire. The battle was joined and the Caveat Emptor was outgunned. The Abschnitt is a deadly predator. We navigated the craft so her narrow aft presented the Wilde champion with an unfavorable target, and deployed lateral thrusters while firing all turrets at the Scorpion's much larger bow.
Soon it broke off to regenerate its depleted shielding. Sensing weakness, we gave pursuit.
Unfortunately, in a blow-for-blow battle against such a foe, the Emptor finds herself woefully outmatched. We resumed evasive maneuvering and again found our great advantage against him, only turning to deploy precision firing passes against perceived weaknesses in the Abschnitt's armor. Our armor at this point had taken a severe pounding and starboard compartment 2 had been breached. We lost Jack Alberts, the Caveat's Second Engineer, to exposure.
We sealed off the breach immediately and resumed our onslaught. By this point the Abschnitt had taken far more punishment that it had bargained for and was attempting to withdraw. No mercy was shown, and no escape would be granted this time.
During the final desperate exchange of fire, neither myself nor the Abschnitt's navigator were paying much attention to our trajectories. I was only fortunate my forward screens had drawn power when this happened:
We recovered dozens of human prisoners' escape pods from the wreckage. They remain under my guard at Kreuzberg until they can be verified as uninfected, at which point they will be returned to their homes. Unfortunately I was unable to draw a living Nomad sample as well.
This will only be the beginning of our skirmishes with the Wild. We must contact the IMG and set out a contract for more of their gunboats. My craft has taken severe damage as of late and requires more time in the yard. Once the prisoners are clear, I must return to Puerto Rico and see to it that the Caveat Emptor gets the service she needs.
Funeral service will be held for Second Engineer Alberts at Puerto Rico. Junkers who aspire to the position may contact me.
