ping your router while you can't connect to the internet.

Also, in the LAN properties you should have a look at the Details tab and see if your computer registers and IP and Default Gateway.

I doubt it is the OS, more likley to be on your ISP's end or your router. If you can. Try switching your routers with a friend and put your details in to make it connect to your ISP.

If you can't you can always try connecting straight into the model without a router if you have a router. If you don't then for the above suggestion it would be "modem" and not "router"

If your router isn't the problem in the end and the Internet and/or DSL lights are solid, try pinging your NIC card. If you get a latency above 1ms, there is something wrong. I will get the default IP for your NIC card to ping as soon as I find my other post.

Hope this helps a bit:cool:

its an on board ethernet controller. i have a pc chips motherboard.
But after reading your suggestions on what it may be, i think its my mobo. it has been through alot in the last 3 years. including four different power surges. witch required repair at the pc repair store, twice. But the odd thing is that i can only stay logged on to the internet for only one hour, i could be typing this up or playing a game and after my pc being on for one hour it kicks me from anything that requires the interent and then i can no longer get on it, unless i restart my pc, witch is getting really old, i want to play Freelancer but i'm afraid because i may be in a pvp fight when i get kicked. and then get sanctioned. or if i'm downloading a new program or what not.

Anyway, i'll listen to a few more suggestions before i make my desicion to buy a new computer.

Thanks
