There is one thing I have not seen discussed in this thread yet. I've never had more than one missile launcher on a fighter and it's usually a CD. I do however understand why some people go the other way though. There are some people in this game who just don't have very good skills in a fighter. Let's face it, you do need skill to be effective in a fighter. Some people get pounded on a regular basis because they can't fly a fighter very well. I actually respect the ones who keep trying rather than simply become a cap whore. Fore these people, maybe missiles is their way of trying to compensate for their lack of skill in the cockpit.
It still goes back to what Bacon said though. Even pilots who are lacking in skill would not have such a great desire for missiles if there were not other pilots who think it is so much fun to blast weaker pilots.
This has actually directed me more towards RP though. I happen to be one of those pilots that does not handle a fighter very well. I simply look for ways to do more RPing than fighting. Of course even this doesn't work when you try to RP with a pirate when the only RP he knows is "I'm gonna count to 5 "
