Earlier, I received a distress call from a smuggler in Tau-37, I went through the jump hole, but failed to see a rather large asteroid that I was careening into. I went unconscious for what seemed to be an hour. I had found out that the smuggler was destroyed, and that smugglers taking the Tau trade route where being blockaded by the CR. Multiple smugglers hailed my ship, asking for assistance in the Tau systems. I sent out a hail to the nearby Lane Hacker Gunboat Edward. We scanned Tau-37 and found it to be clear of hostiles, in Tau 23 we waited at Cali for information and confirmation of the smugglers that they where at 29. There where reports of CRs across the Tau's destroying ships, and we spotted a cruiser along the route, but he disappeared into the Tau 44 Jump Hole before we could engage. The smugglers jumped through and met at Cali. We started to go towards the Tau 37 Jump Hole when we where intercepted by a Viper MKII. 1 of the smugglers and I hit the jump hole as he was coming in. Edward held him back while the other 2 came in. The Edward warned that the pilot was jumping. The Smugglers fled towards the Alpha Jump Hole. He targeted one of the smugglers. I followed on cruise, when we cleared the asteroid field I fired upon him after he fired a Cruise Disruptor at one of the smugglers. The smugglers made away while I fought the Viper. He was overpowering me, until the Edward showed up with 4 more fighters en route. The fighter had done a good deal of damage and I fled, just a few kilometers away from Freeport 10. I managed to dock, but my ship was on fire and I passed out as soon as my ship was secure.
I have not heard from the smugglers, but I assume they made it to Malta.
