because on one side, fairplay is wanted, but in recompense, people who play this game are suddenly barred from flying certain pixels

It's more than simply wanting fairplay, and this is more than a game. Why do I say that? It's just a game to me, but several people vest their emotions deeply into this, and take everything personally. Barring people from "flying certain pixels" promotes an overall better atmosphere on both the forums (less flaming) and the game (more fun for most everyone).

At the end of the day, more than likely no action is going to be taken due to a lack of consensus, but that doesn't stop us from discussing it til we're blue in the face.

Here's a thought: the admins have said they won't ever restrict capital ships by their power, you don't trust faction leaders, so what about completely neutral and (gasp!) unbiased people? Just think about it for a while.
