I agree that there is a LOT of elitisme with the current community. Splinter factions arent necesarily a bad thing, though they must have some set of rules to keep it proper RP. I think its acceptable when there are no conflicts within their RP.
Shiplists can be weird to some but if there is a good roleplay background then I think it is acceptable.
Write a background if its not standard RP. Easy as that!
I agree that unofficial Factions are sometimes more properly Roleplayed then some official ones.
