So Im a bit new to the discovery Rp server and this is my first post, so bear with me on this, and ignore it if you find it ridiculous. But Ive been reading everything that has been said and I feel I should give my view on the matter.
I have an Order character and the first thing that strikes me is that I cant really see the point of the BS| faction. In a RP environment I cant really see the Order having separate groups that follow different rules in my opinion the Order just isnt that big or that kind of community. There should be one command unit that follows and enforces a set guideline and all Order members should respect and follow them. Not everyone can be in charge, thats life, that RP. So some of the things that have been laid down by this council and the Admins, eg not going past certain systems due to fear of over exposing the Order, make RP sense. But there seems to be a bit of boredom thats creeping in. So the question is how to overcome that and make the Order RP more exciting.
1.) First I think the hierarchy should be firmly sorted out and established. Ideally everyone should start from scratch I know this wont happen because people have been building up characters etc and nobody wants to start again when theyve been spending their time and RP energy establishing who their characters are and what ships they fly and their back stories etc. But maybe starting from scratch isnt necessary. At this point I do realise that a sort of Hierarchy has already been established which is great and that can use that as a starting point, but lets make sure that anyone with an Order character gets involved and joins the ranks. After all the RP should dictate that Order members joined because they want to follow the Order ethos. If you want to do your own thing there is always the option of being a freelancer, thats why the freelancer ID is there.
Now I think that the ranking system shouldnt be as arbitrary as someone saying that I reckon character X would make a good captain lets promote him. There can be a system in place. For example (and this is only an example, and suggestions would be good) rank can be determined by how many nomads a character kills, so in a similar way to getting better ships by getting more credits you can get a better rank by killing more nomads. So, lets say (and the numbers need to be worked out properly), that I start as a private or whatever and to move to the next level I have to kill 100 nomads. How do we know how many nomads are killed by a character? Well thats where tractor beams come in, tractor in the nomad and then deliver them (i.e trade them to) one of the Order people in charge (probably flying a battleship) and they have the responsibility of taking a note of it and updating the number on the forums or some other designated place. What if the there is no-one at the top there to trade them to? Well then trade them to a highest ranked officer available who will then make a note of it and pass it on. Yes there is trust involved, there is always the possibility of higher ranks claiming that they killed the nomads and not you but isnt that just typical of life, your boss taking credit for the work youve been doing (but hopefully this wont happen to much and anyway there is always some tension in any organisation, in a weird way it makes the RP a little more interesting and gives the commanding officers something to sort out once in a while but I doubt/hope that itll happen to often because the Order is a community of trust and we all want to RP well).
So you can build on the blue print already established but make it all encompassing. Something like:
0 nomads = Privates fly fighters
1 nomad = sergeant flying bombers
2 nomads = leutentant flying gunboat
3 nomads = captain flying cruiser
And so on and so forth Ill leave it to those in charge to work out the details but needless to say the numbers should be large.
I realise Im rambling a little and most of you have probably stopped reading. But my second point is this.
2.) Lets have more scenarios and more interesting missions to do so that we can leave omicron minor once in a while and brave it in the rest of Sirius. Lets keep the people in charge busy creating exciting things for the rest of us to do (get the Admins envolved). For example, and this is just of the top of my head, have a scenario where a few liberty ships are transferring dangerous nomad material to Cambridge research station, we arent sure in which convoy they are stored but we have some idea blablabla (someone add a story and make it RP relevant) and all of a sudden theres a mission to intercept it. If the admins are clever they can involve multiple factions into this. If they cant be arsed then the people at the top of the order with all the credits can sort it out themselves, buy a ship, use some other character maybe involve some other character from the (eg) liberty navy and away we go I bet theyd love to get involved too. Anyway this is just a quick example of a scenario that could make it more exciting, I can think of hundreds of others that dont require too much effort and I sure all of you can as well. Isnt this why we RP, so we can interact.
Lastly, something just on what has been said about flying into Liberty space and all that.
3.) I agree that its a bit weird that the Order are allied to Corsairs and that they have Liberty as enemies but I think youre looking at it the wrong way round. It doesnt mean that the Order seek to destroy Liberty, you should understand it as that Liberty seek to destroy the Order as they misunderstand its purpose and label them as terrorists and that enemy status is more of a warning for Order pilots. With this in mind I can understand why people are saying that Order ships shouldnt enter the New York system and just let rip unless it makes RP sense.
To make the NPC Order ships attacking liberty ships make sense in Alaska in terms of RP all you have to do if think about it like this: they were patrolling, making sure the omicron minor jump hole stays hidden, the liberty ships spotted them, understood them as terrorists and opened fire. The Order ships were simply defending themselves. The jump hole must stay hidden for the protection of liberty because if liberty entered they would be infected by the nomads. So the NPCs killing a few liberty ships is for the greater good, and its not like they fired first they were just defending themselves.
For liberty ships in omicron minor, the scenario is simple, they entered, they got infected and now the Order have to destroy them before they can return to liberty space and infect the larger community. I dont like this idea that Order ships shouldnt attack liberty navy in minor, thats just stupid.
Anyway thats quite enough for now, some of this probably makes more sense then other bits. I would like to know what people think. And maybe some of this wasnt exactly related to whats been talked about.
