I've been on limited duty, for reasons probably quite obvious. A few days ago, however, I was aboard the Naha when I received word that Sum and Kasugai were in combat with Corsair forces. I geared up my bomber and got out there as soon as I could to assist.
Unfortunately, Kasugai was shot down by the Corsair Gunboat "Leonid.Brejnev" before I was able to make it. Sum finished the Corsair moments after, and took Kasugai's escape pod back to Naha, getting him in a backup vessel as well.
Out in the field alone while the other two were getting some quick fixes, and in Kasugai's case, a new vessel, I made contact with yet another Corsair Gunboat, this one reading "[+]Sicarii". I was going to hold back, but then he began attacking a nearby trader. I ordered him to stop, but he ignored me completely, so I jumped in and started hitting him as hard as I could while he focused on the trade vessel. He continued attacking the transport, even though I was dealing serious damage to his hull; enough to completely drain his nanobot supplies. His decision destroyed the unfortunate trader, but doomed himself in the process. He turned his sights on me, and it turned to a stalemate, as he began firing a dual compliment of missiles every few seconds. I took up evasive maneuvers and stalled until Sum could provide backup. He arrived not long after, and Sicarii decided Yungai-kun was an easier target, firing missiles relentlessly at him. His attention averted, I gave the pirate no quarter, and he was destroyed soon after.
Sum's CD and CM were destroyed in the missile barrage, but he was unharmed. We headed back to Naha to resupply, and to meet up with Hatsumi-kun.
Sum left dock before me, and soon began yelling in group comms that there was an Outcast Destroyer near the Naha. Lovely. Jumping back into space, the "Demonica.DS" could be seen not far off, having a troubling conversation with Sum. When Kasugai, now fitted out in another Taiidan Bomber, and I moved in, ordering the Destroyer away, the commander insisted that the situation was between him and Sum alone. A brave one.
I warned him one final time, and he refused, naturally, attacking Sum. The battle wasn't going perfectly, with the commander's apparent target taking heavy fire. We drained his shield regenerators quickly, but were taking fire ourselves. That's when the "Spirit of Akita" showed up, a Kishiro luxury liner I had previously encountered peacefully many times before making trade runs though the system. The captain then hailed me, asking if he should assist. I was taken aback by a trade captain offering his firepower against such a deadly target as an Outcast Destroyer, and was about to turn him away in reflex, then I thought again. Sum was taking heavy fire, and although I was positive we would come out on top, I couldn't be sure that his ship would survive the encounter. I wasn't going to ask the captain to endanger his crew, but I didn't want to endanger Yungai-kun either, so replied "At your discretion, captain.". The luxury liner selflessly jumped into the battle, guns blazing. His heavy turret fire aided greatly in draining the Demonica's backup shield systems, allowing our Supernovas to cripple the warship's hull continuously. After a few minutes, the destroyer was nothing more than another cloud of debris in the Yanagi, the commander's target landing the final shot. Karma.
