Since some people have repeatedly pointed me at this thread in Skype I've decided to give a bit of elaboration on the subject.

Did Coalition win? Yes. Did Nomads came shortly after? Yes. Now there lies a quite interesting bit: where those the same one finding themselves in Sirius? ... ... Nope. Both conceptual art as well as storyboard for the introduction suggest they were of different branch, whichever you may want to call them, with those in Sol having different look, a rather aggressive one. Curious, eh? Now let's move on: where there human survivors? Yes, and likely some part of Coalition survived as well. Not those on Earth but those on the border, around Pluto (and perhaps it's moons) and beyond (Kuiper belt, Haumea, Makemake). Perhaps deep rim station(s). But that part is up to SCRA I suppose, since it's their field.

The reason the nomad part was cut out was that developers felt it has shown the enemy too early in the game (despite overwhelming positive reaction when the intro was shown at E3), not because they wanted to alter the story entirely, the cut part was supposed to be shown later - Freelancer wasn't supposed to be the only game in the series as you should already know, alas no continuation followed. If some of you recall the extended (as it is called on youtube) is actually labeled as "Original introduction" in all documentary material supplied on Bonus DVD I have shared a year ago here.

Opportunities? A hell of a lot if taken precautions and proper approach. The nomad ship arrived via some portal technology. Who knows if survivors made their way to follow it. That's some very wild material for roleplayers out there into that kind of stuff. There is a lot of top grade material to pick up, and it's only better with the age.
