Unexpected Ban

After experiencing sever connection errors that wouldn't allow me to join, I finally made it in. As I was floating in space near Springfield Station reconfiguring my controls, I was booted from the game. I thought that once again, it was a connection error and tired to relog. It was at this point, 20:45 GMT -5, that I got a message stating that I was banned. Was I banned for reconfiguring my controls in space, or something more serious than that?

what exactly does "reconfiguring my controls in space" actually mean? need a bit more info on that.
