The mods have a plot?

Hello!

Im new in this parts, and I dont know the best way to put my questions so Im asking here...
I played the Freelancer original game to the end and thougt that was it but a friend of mine told me about the link "Lancers REACTOR" and for what I understanded this is a link for download upgrades or something like that.
So I tried to download one mod of many that are here after I downloaded the Freelancer mod manager an the I aplied both and tried to play the game, I went directly to level 38 but the game doesnt have any history, I flyed in all the sistem and the only thing that I did was to acept normal missions to get some cash and thats all.

The mod that I downloaded was Discovery Mod v4.82

So my question is...

All the mods are like this one ?
Doesnt have any history like the original game?
Doesnt have caracters like Junko Zane(Juni) or something like that to gide us?

I would be thankful if someone could help me out it this questions
