However, the asteroid fields in Liberty aren't doing so well either, with (if vanilla is to be believed) no fields remaining commercially viable for long term production. Silver isn't exactly the most helpful element for warships, either. What Liberty *does* have in terms of raw materials is Pittsburgh and the scrap fields, an advantage not to be overlooked; although the Junkers will no doubt waylay any move on their business.

Two things:

One, aren't the Xenos out of work miners that lost their job because the work all dried up.

Second: Guess who got the contract to clean up the Liberty scrap fields, ALG. I also highly doubt that the Junkers could be trusted to preform military industrial levels of scrap collection without bankrupting Liberty via "fair" deals. Is there really any Bretonian or Liberty corperation that could preform scrap collection as ALG or the Junkers? Not to mention that in Rheinland even the Junkers sell their scrap to ALG (Its on a news report in one Rheinland bar) who smelt it. What I'm getting at is are any of the Liberty corporations equipped to convert scrap metal into usable ship hull panels? I honestly don't know. and if they aren't they will have trouble using all of the old ships floating around NY.
