to make it simple -

the AI ID is for those chars that unmistakenly NEED an AI ID, cause nothing else fits. - but in order to RP an ID, you don t necessarily need an AI ID. - here are a few examples... :

1)
you RP as an unmanned AI drone that is flying patrol pattern, exploring the known space - a watchman drone, if you like - you have been deployed by the "interspace commercial" to gather data about common routes, the market, dangers, ships, etc.

your ID in that case would be an IC ID

2)
you are an autonomous drone seeking new worlds - one might call you a "von neumann" drone. you follow a pattern of orders in your coding, you are free to go where you like gathering data, gathering intelligence etc. - your owner however is maybe the zoners - cause they set many drones off into space exploring.

your ID in that case would be a zoner ID

3)
you are an autonomous drone following a pattern to explore and if necessary conquer or claim useful space, materials, planets. - one might call it a "berserker" drone. you have NOT been deployed by a spacefaring company or faction, but you were assembled by a "von neumann" drone with your own given patterns. ( thats the scenario of AIs building further AIs ) - you are only related to humans or living being in an indirect relation.

your ID in that case would be an AI ID

so as long as your origin can unmistakenly be traced back to a faction that has an ID - and as long as you are kind of "deployed" by them.... you can RP an AI while having the normal ID.

only when you are a pure AI, build by AIs unrelated to any orders or codes from any faction that is presented as a faction in disco - you should get an AI ID. ( and only if what you do is unrelated to a faction... so if you might not be related to a faction ID anymore, but you still take orders by them or do their bidding - you can still use their ID )
